Notes |
- Joseph and his son Abraham had the mill and land at the present location of Lancaster Mennonite School.
Joseph's will proved April 2, 1748. "Deed W-25, dated May 3, 1782, and Deed 19-171, dated April 1, 1799, Lancaster County Archives. The recitations of title within these two deeds state that Joseph and Barbara Buckwalter sold their mill property to their son Abraham Buckwalter on February 23, 1747. Statutes would have required that Abraham be over age twenty-one at the time of that sale. The date of August 27, 1738 or 1740, is often quotes by researchers as Abraham's birth date. This date, however cannot be authenticated and documentation renders it highly suspect. It may result from confusion of the birth date of Abraham Buckwalter [Aug 26, 1740--Jan 7, 1819] with this Abraham." Kendig, M.D., James Willis. Pennsylvania Mennonite Heritage, July 2005, p. 46.
