Oscar W. SMITH, 78, machinist, died of a heart ailment at 9:50 a.m., Wednesday in his home, 1324 S. Limestone st., after a one-day illness. A native of Fayette County, he was born Aug 7, 1867, the son of John M. and Saphronia BLOOMER SMITH. He lived in Springfield more than 57 years. Mr. SMITH was a member of Clifton Avenue Methodist Church and Bushnell Council No. 163 Junior Order of United American Mechanics. He was a past chancellor commander and life member of Ingomar Lodge No. 610, Knights of Pythias. Mr. SMITH was employed by the Automotive Engineering Co. He is survived by his widow, Mariah; two sisters, Mrs. Amy NUSS and Mrs. Pearl COE of Jeffersonville; and two brothers, Harry SMITH of Jeffersonville, and Ralph SMITH of London, O. The body is at Littleton funeral home, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday by the Rev. I. P. Day pastor of Clifton Avenue Methodist Church. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.
