Myrtle was the daughter of Sarah and Joseph Drake. She spent her childhood on the beautiful Illinois farm, attending Drake School. In 1884, her father came to Jewell County, Kansas. About a year later, they moved to Graham County. In her father's home, she married Daniel H. Skeels. They came to Burr Oak, Kansas to make their home on the Skeels farm in the White Rock Valley [one mile northwest of Otego]. For fifty years they maintained a gracious home where warm hospitality was felt by all who visited them. She was united with the Methodist Church in Burr Oak for more than 70 years. The Dan Skeels home was blessed with one daughter Vera Brandt [born July 1890 in Kansas] and two granddaughters, Rosalie Cody and Helen Carifli.
